This is a sharp Illinois 18-size early key wind and key set pocket watch, in a solid case, running fantastically and keeping time within a minute a day. The serial number 425662 dates production to October 1882.
Nice original pinned dial is in great shape with some faint hairlines.
The case is one of the tightest I’ve encountered in a long time and you will need a case knife or something similar to get the cover and bezel open. They were made to snap closed this tightly, to keep out dust, and it means this case has survived 140 years with surprisingly little wear. Flawless, perfect, brand new thick crystal.
Really just a great watch. I have a soft spot for Illinois movements. This one was a routine cleaning and servicing; everything was intact and in good condition. Once it was clean and oiled, it took off running with strong balance amplitude and keeps excellent time. A very satisfying service!
